RemindMe Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information RemindMe ("the app", "we", "us") collects when you use it, how that information is used and stored, and the choices you have. RemindMe is a group reminders and messaging app that lets people who know each other (family, friends, coworkers) share reminders and short messages within private groups they create or join.

1. Information we collect

We only collect information that you or another member of your group provides directly by using the app. We do not buy data about you from anyone else, and we do not use advertising or analytics SDKs.

Technical information

Location — not collected

RemindMe can optionally compute local sunrise/sunset times to automatically switch between light and dark appearance. If you turn this on in Settings, your device's approximate location is read directly by your phone's operating system and used only on your device to do this calculation. It is never sent to our servers, never stored, and never leaves your device. This feature is off by default and only activates if you explicitly turn it on.

2. How we use your information

To create and manage your account, and let you sign in.
To let you create, join, and participate in groups with people you choose.
To deliver reminders and messages to the right group members, including via push notification.
To let you customize the app (theme, notification sounds, language).
To respond to support requests you send us.

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not build advertising or tracking profiles.

3. Where your information is stored

RemindMe is built on Google Firebase (Firestore, Firebase Storage, Firebase Authentication, Firebase Cloud Messaging, and Cloud Functions). Your account details, reminders, messages, and any photos, voice notes, or files you send are stored on Google's cloud infrastructure, which processes this data on our behalf and under our instructions — Google does not use it for its own purposes. All data sent between your device and our servers is encrypted in transit (TLS/HTTPS).

4. Sharing your information

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with third parties for advertising or marketing. Your reminders, messages, photos, and voice notes are visible only to the members of the specific group they were shared in — never to other RemindMe users outside that group, and never to us for any purpose other than operating the app.

5. How long we keep your information

Reminders are kept for as long as they're active (including recurring reminders), so they can keep firing correctly. Completed one-off reminders are not automatically deleted today, but this may change in a future update.
Group chat messages and their attachments (photos, voice notes, files) are automatically deleted after a retention period — 30 days by default, or a shorter period (daily/weekly) if a group's owner or admin chooses one. Once a message is deleted, its file is also removed from storage.
Account and profile information is kept until you delete your account.

6. Your choices and rights

Edit your profile at any time from within the app.
Delete individual messages you've sent, at any time.
Leave a group at any time, which removes your access to that group's content going forward.
Delete your account at any time from Settings > Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, your uploaded files, and (for groups you solely own) the group itself and its contents. If you own a group with other members, you'll be asked to hand off ownership or remove other members first, since deleting your account can't unilaterally delete a shared group out from under other people.

7. Children's privacy

RemindMe is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

8. Security

We use Firebase's built-in security features, including encrypted connections (TLS/HTTPS) for all data in transit, and access rules that restrict who can read or write each piece of data (for example, only members of a group can read that group's messages and reminders). No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard practices.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continuing to use RemindMe after a change means you accept the updated policy.
